Using a state whistle-blower law, Mr. Diamond since 2002 has filed about 95 suits in Cook County court here against retailers that failed to charge him taxes on Internet sales, alleging that they broke the law. In cases where the state of Illinois joins the suits and prevails, he is entitled to up to 25% of the financial damages, with the rest going to state coffers. Mr. Diamond's first eight suits were filed against such retailers as Wal-Mart Stores Inc., Office Depot Inc. and KB Toys Inc. He has netted about a half-million dollars already, from some retailers. Because of settlement agreements between the retailers and the attorney general's office, the state's judges have agreed to keep the names of most of the retailers and the settlement amounts confidential. Actually Jim in an article without supporting documentation reviewing a writers history is not avoiding any issue. But here are some comments re the first quote. The Iranian nuclear program predates the Iraq invasion. I see no reason to believe that Iran’s ultimate goal has changed. I would hasten to add that while their strategic goal hasn’t changed, it is quite possible that on a tactical level they might have allowed the program to be more visible in an effort to drive wedge between the US and Europe. In this regard Zbiggy is yet again reading the situation incorrectly and becoming an unwitting tool of the Iranians. Perhaps consistency is not a virtue. The existing array of artillery currently aimed at So. Korea could very quickly kill millions. Zbiggy seems to not consider this reason enough to tread softly.

The Bush economic recovery turns five next month!

Just a few comments from someone living in Seattle. Over the years ( 25+) I have made many trips to Beacon. I never considered Beacon some intense “trad” place; it simply seemed like a fun place to go climbing. I rarely ran into other climbers out there and haven’t been there for several years but given the infrequency of meeting other climbers there it sounds like Beacon was getting to be more popular before the recent internet postings. As a visitor from the north with a longtime interest in Beacon I am interested in seeing which routes have been cleaned and/or had their equipment upgraded. Perhaps a solution would be to have the Beacon reports made sticky and edit the thread with new info pasted to the top and the thread title revised to show the date of revision. The information would be available to those seeking it. That said I am amazed that no one has even brought up the possibility that the etchings were in fact a direct response to recent internet postings.
