The Loggers have finished logging on the entrance road (1190) to Fossil so weekday access is on. There is however fresh cut timber on the 1000 road so there may be some logging activity in the near future. A lot of hikers and MTN bikers visit Fossil for the view of Rainer, it is best to blend in, give the loggers a lot of room, we don't want to be a singled out user group.

What about belaying a leader with a fig 8 in rap mode with out a glove? I have seen it way too often. I have used this tech in alpine climbing but only when there is a lot of rope drag and I want to reel in a lot of rope fast. When on multi pitch or alpine climbing I use the 8 but I use the small hole like a stich plate. When ask what up with belaying with the 8 in rap mode, the responce is this is the only way I know how to belay, funny that is what a belayer told me when offered a gri gri just before they droped me to the dirt!! The mountain masters can not be resoled. the sole is bonded to the midsole. A pair lasts me over a year before they are trashed. I am on my third pair. Love that S1 sticky rubber, when I walk across the wet grass than across my driveway I can hear the little pebbles picking up and dropping. They are the shit for the wet trails of washington, I have also done long approaches with a heavy pack, they climb well but do not edge that great they are soooo comfortable . If I am not in rock shoes I am wearing them. They will put black marks on your mom's or girl friends floor.

Dude Fossil is choss and i wouldn't go there only bumblies like me that get elvisleg on 5.7 go there . and if you go there you will miss the roar of the freeway and rain at exit 38.If you do go park at the 1000 rd gate #202 and bike in or park at the end of peissner road and go up the 4000 road for a more clandestine approach.Dude its way podunk and I would advise getting a local for your first trip.
