I even had the video camera on hood as well so I had 2 different things to manage other than myself.Let me know whatcha got in mind? [ 03-08-2002: Message edited by: scot'teryx ]

  3. This is bullshit! I wish to be put lower on that list, and please put me ahead of Dan! I had my day, and did more gravity bongs and 6 foot grafix bong hits than you can shake an ice axe at! I am alomst pernamently fucked up from all the pot I smoked, so i think that deserves at least #94!
  4. randonee skis with koflachs really suck on boiler plate
  5. quote: Originally posted by goatboy: I do know that the parking lot is at 8,000 feet or so, and the summit is over 14,000 -- so that's a long day. Is Casaval Ridge a trailhead that has a parking lot that is higher than the avy route? Because the avy route is elev 6860 at Bunny Flats. I really wanted to go down and do casaval this year as well, but will probably do either clear creek or maybe hotlum
  6. what do you mean there was no hut on top of ol hood? we were in there together watching re-runs of Fat Albert the colors::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
  7. Sunday March 3 Left lot at 5am after sleeping in the back of the rodeo. TotheTop and sverdina bivied in the cold parking lot. AT 515am I wanted to take a poop but they locked the damn door on the bathroom near the registration doo-hickey. Damnit!Started skinning up (first time for me using randonnee skis) and go to the top of the palmer rather uneventfully. There was some wind, but it was kinda warm, so it was okay. After almost getting run over by a snowcat, we took the skis off above the palmer lift and put on the crampons as it was real icy. Wound up stashing our skis 500 feet above the lift and then went for crater rock. TotheTop and sverdina speed off as my wife and I kept a steady pace. The heat, the sulphur, and the altitude made me a little queasy a few times, but we made it to the hogsback and then started up. The route was in good shape, and I am not sure why many people leave so early for a summit on hood when it comes to the s side route, except to maybe see the sunrise? The sun was beating down on us, and the SPF50 was slabbed on our faces. We watched some big time gapping go on from here on out. Some older guy had taken off from the hogsback and worked his way above the Devils Kitchen and then up towards the Steel Cliffs like he was going to solo it or something? He made his way back to us, and then I saw the gaper reveal his gear. Chest harness, harnesss, ice screws, and 4 pickets. What's so weird is that he was alone.....?? Hmmmmm. The hogsback was quite direct, and there were no switchbacks as some images on summitpost have shown, and the pearly gates were in great shape. Once at the summit (11:15am) we ran into all these other folks that have posted that they summitted. Kinda funny that none of us even asked each other if we were posters on this site. Anyway, we then witnessed the guy with track shoes and 1 inch spikes get up top and blurt out, "2 hours 40 minutes". Good for you I thought, but going down is gonna suck in those lame shoes. On the descent I watched him struggle on the ice in the pearly gates and down the hogsback, and down past the devils kitchen. Ignorance is Bliss I guess. Incredibly sunny day, and I don't think that even spring time can get better conditions than what we witnessed. Once we got back down to the skis I was in for a real treat as we only wore Koflacks to go with the randonnee setup. Big mistake. The crusty yukiness of the snow, and the no-ankle support of the boots made for a hasty ski down. After falling down repeated times, I finally carried my skis down to the top of the palmer where sverdina asked me how it was, and I said it sucked. AFter getting back on the skis and falling a few more times I got the hang of it as I sped down the palmer run and back to the car lickety split just in time to catch up with Bill (tothetop). Pretty worn out, and was excited to drive all the way back home Best place to eat after long day :::::::::IZZYS SALAD AND PIZZA BAR. Yummy! Some pictures are posted on summitpost.com Summitpost Images Good to see all those CC's up on the summit!

  10. Rodchester - did I see you on the summit? We were the party of 4 - 3 guys and 1 woman. I had the OSAT helmet on, and we topped out from the hogsback around 1115am and headed down around noon. I think we might have spoke?
  11. SWEET! HAPPINESS! This accident has been on my mind quite a bit since he is a good friend of some of my acquaintences, but I have never had the chance to meet him - what a way to start the weekend! Time for freshiez on hood!

  13. I known i am getting stoaked just to do the hogback route on Sunday. Weather is looking okey-dokey. But there's no hut at the top?
  14. quote: Originally posted by adr_901: Right On, sounds like a great trip! Was there any loose stuff or conditions fairly safe as far as avy risks? I did the trip in the summer and got to ski some great corn with very nice weather. It was agreat trip, but the ice and high winds kinda sucked. Avy risks were low - there was hardly any loose snow anywhere to be found. There is a map on the nps site that shows where avy risks are high in the winter, and most of the route to Muir is pretty safe except for near panorama point. With 80% of the route being icy, there was no consideration of avy risks what so ever. I can't wait for spring, and cant wait to get a randonnee setup.
  15. 1130am - Cold and windy at parking lot - about 25 degrees with 15-20 mph winds. Once out of the parking lot it continued to stay consistently windy and cold to the base of panorama point. Been a long time since I was able to hike in fleece, shell, and balaclava and not get hot. Half way up panorama point it was real icy, and w/o some sort of crampons - it would be a real tough endeavor. We had snow shoes so the teeth helped us gain the top of panorama point. The wind was blowing about 40-50mph+. After hurdling a few small ice/snow barriers to gain the ridge, the wind started to calm down a little bit once we reached McClure Rock. The rest of the trip was a slog, with 50% patches of ice mixed with 2 inches of spindrift - so the traversing on snowshoes really sucked. We set our turnaround time for 330pm. A member of our team shot ahead and was kicking ass, but never knew we had a turnaround time. We reached 9000' at 330pm and decided to have lunch there. Sergio was a few hundred feet above us and came down to us as well while our other member w/o a radio continued on. We waited for a long time but got cold so we put on our skis (Sergio had a splitboard) and started heading down. The first 1500 feet were okay, with good snow followed by patches of ice - so it was a challenge. From 7500' on down it was a real challenge as it was pure ice. The descent down panorama point was a little hairy as it was like pure ice. The lower portion to the car was all heavy/wet snow and real slow. Down in 45 minutes (I liked that part) First time descending the snowfield opn skis and I liked it, even though I hiked my downhill boots up since I have no randonee setup. (I was a gaper) *******At least I didn't wear my down jacket in Kirkland like Sergio

  22. Has anybody done any bouldering out by Surprise Lake? I was snowshoeing out there this Saturday and saw some good sized boulders that appeared to be pretty cool if the didn't have 7 feet of snow on them. Curious.........
  23. I've got an older HP Photosmart C200 Digital. One of the first digitals that were affordable, but it is only 1.2MB. What's so incredible is I take it everywhere, and it survives. Frozen, wet, dropped, you name it, it has seen it. Not good quality images, but I dont have to worry about losing or breaking it, kind of like Gas Station Sunglasses u know?
  24. I really suck - I don't think any of you want me on your rope - by the time you yelled "falling" and I reacted, it would have taken me 1 minute and 29 seconds to recognize the situation
