chesterboo
Has anybody been up lately? I was thinking there was a fun snow chute to climbers right of route 1a??? Assuming we parked at lower Elinor trailhead, how far on the road is it to Washington Trailhead of Route 1? Any beta would be appreciated. Drederek
I would guess about a half an hour or less. A little more than a mile with 300' of elevation gain max. Off White posted a TR last year of a fun snow chute on Washington.
sjwages
4/22/07--It was a half hour walk from the lower Elinor TH to Washington's TH. Tried Route 2 but it's melted out, so is winter direct. We went over to the NE ridge and it got very warm around noon with icicles breaking off above us and zipping down the slope so we bailed. MCash
Melted out as in undoable, or just some scrambling at the end? Any pictures? Thanks.
mattp
I'm not sure which route is "route 2," but the standard Southeast Face ramp route, from the snow basin directly below the summit, is good all year. I've climbed it in nearly every month on the calendar. I seem to remember the guidebooks were not always clear about the route, but I have not seen the most recent edition. RJRiha
I dont know which route is 1a...is it the surprise couloir? There are a number of chutes to the right of route 1 which look like they go to the summit ridge right now...not sure if they do or not. The road is melted almost all the way the the Ellinor bypass trail. It took us about 1/2 hour from the car to the Mt. Washington trail today (4/25).
