JoshK Posted January 10, 2003 Posted January 10, 2003 It's sunny days like this that make me want to quit...but then the cruel reality that lots of my friends are in the same boat as you guys sets in...sigh... Quote
North_by_Northwest Posted January 10, 2003 Posted January 10, 2003 Freedom would be a lot more enjoyable if I didn't have that nagging feeling in the back of my head that tells me I need to start making money instead of spending it. Keep your job until you can quit with some dough. Quote
slothrop Posted January 10, 2003 Posted January 10, 2003 Damn...smart stuff. Crap, now people with real skills (read: not web developers and dot commers) are getting layed off. C'mon, JoshK, why so pissed at dot-commers? Is someone an idiot for getting a high-paying job with an Internet company between 1996 and 2000? Lots of smart people have been getting laid off from those dot-coms for years now. Your concern is a bit too late. Quote
JoshK Posted January 10, 2003 Posted January 10, 2003 No, but someone is an idiot for ditching school or a good stable job to take a high paying job at a dot com who claims their business model is going to be selling <insert dumb product here> over the internet. Lots of people I know took it for granted that they'd always be able to get easy jobs with high pay requiring no skills. Quote
catbirdseat Posted January 10, 2003 Author Posted January 10, 2003 I knew a gal at Optiva who left a nice cush marketing job to go to a dot com only three months before the crunch. I remember thinking then, "how dumb, this whole bubble is about to burst". Quote
minx Posted January 10, 2003 Posted January 10, 2003 Lets get back to what's really important mid-week climbing. Dot-com jobs should be thought of as gateway gigs. Gateway to more free time. All kidding aside, I'm surprised at how many of my friends who were bitten by the dot-com snake found new jobs relatively quickly. We won't discuss salaries... Quote
chelle Posted January 10, 2003 Posted January 10, 2003 I'm surprised at how many of my friends who were bitten by the dot-com snake found new jobs relatively quickly. We won't discuss salaries... I hope they were smart enough to get mostly cash rather than stock options. Quote
allthumbs Posted January 10, 2003 Posted January 10, 2003 My nephew hired on with Microsoft right out of college last year. 22 yrs. old, making well over $100,000 to start...(I don't think he's getting the stock options though. Are they even offering them anymore?). That's nice cake in my book. Quote
