RobBob Posted January 8, 2003 Posted January 8, 2003 Here's a hump-day question for you: I've always thought that music is somehow an "adhesive" in your mind's memory bank. Music is inseparably interwoven with some of my strongest memories, particularly the good ones. Yesterday I figured out the first pop song that played over & over in my head when I was a kid. It was Billy Joe Royal singing "Down in the Boondocks" and I was playing on the beach near my house (I must have been 5 yo). So my question is, what's the first tune you remember playing in your head? Quote
catbirdseat Posted January 8, 2003 Posted January 8, 2003 It's hard to say which one tune was first because my head is crammed with so many of them, but I would have to say, "The Yellow Rose of Texas", because that was the first thing that came to mind. Mum won all their albums, in fact, in one of them radio call-in contests. Who knows, though? Coulda been the Muppets' Christmas album with John Denver. Hmm ... Actually, DFA's earliest music memory is not so much about a song or group, but about the satisfying sound a nail made puncturing the cones of dad's tall and presumably rather high-quality loudspeakers. Oops! Sorry, dad! The ten-penny treatment doubtless had an adverse affect on music reproduction. Quote

catbirdseat Posted January 8, 2003 Posted January 8, 2003 We used to take summer trips to the mountains near Truckee, CA and I remember at age 5 getting up at 4 am and riding in the back of the station wagon. We'd wake up going over the Grapevine with the sun coming up with the radio playing On Broadway and Georgie Girl. Quote
