psathyrella Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 I've been using a sumtec for vertical ice and finding that ten or twenty placements is enough to loosen the pick enough that it's pretty much unusable even if I've just cranked the screw pretty tight. I need to buy some loctite which will help some, but I wonder if anyone else has had this problem? The attachment mechanism is hard to describe -- three rounded bumps hold the pick to the head -- but in all honesty it seems a bit jenky for this sort of thing. Quote
genepires Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 not sure if this will work as I don't own one of those tools, but how about finding a lock washer to fits under the bolt? if you can find that, it will work much better than loctite. Quote
psathyrella Posted December 19, 2013 Author Posted December 19, 2013 Ok, thanks for the suggestion. The washer that's in there is just textured with no springiness, so I'll try a lock washer as well. Quote
Ben Beckerich Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 If you're wrenching down on them and they're still loosening up that fast, I might suspect you'd rounded the threads on the bolt. Might consider replacing.. and then definitely degrease the threads and use blue loctite. Quote
