Climbing near Hood River?

The missus and I are taking a short trip to Hood River in mid-July. I've climbed and skied Mt Hood and Mt Adams, but I've never rock climbed in the area. If anyone is interested in showing me around, send me a message.

 

Any recommended climbs, say up to 10a/b? And trail runs?

There are a variety of areas listed in the new rock guide for pdx/nw oregon, you should check it out. As far as trail run just head up 35 toward hood and pick any of the numerous trail heads.

Both have surprisingly good rock; the former is more of a trad area and also closer to the road. The latter has shorter routes and is more remote (but easily accessed via good roads for most of the way; check with the local RD on current access).

Don't forget about the "best climbing in Oregon" at Beacon Rock, which may be open by mid July. Half hour drive from HR.

 

I've yet to go, but have heard good reports of Klinger.

lots of good trail runs in the gorge as well. dog mountain and eagle creek for example.

The climbing area's up 35 suck balls compared to the almighty Beacon Rock. Just go there if you can. Have a great trip.
