In looking at BC ski setups, it seems most boots are designed to ski well or climb well. Is Anyone happy with climbing performance in thier ski boots, (sloggin or ice climbing)? Or would you just ski in your climbing boots if it were that tough of climbing. The Lowa Struktura looks like a good climber as well as some of the Dynafits.

It seems like another piece of gear you need three of again, one for approaching, one for touring and one for really shreddin down the hill.

I like my Scarpa Lasers, but I have heard from some that have the Lowa that they dont offer as much support as the Lasers.

The new Dynafit TLT 700 Alpine Touring Boots w/Thermaflex Liners look sweet, but all I know is that they are superlight

As a hint, try the www.thebackcountry.net - I got all my gear from them - cheap because they were demos.

No AT boot is going to climb particularly good. My opinion is if your going to spend big bucks, you might as well get a boot that ski's really well. I haver Scrapa Denali and they ski nicely, and can power big boards. The Dynafits look good.

Any that are good for skiing will not climb as well as a mountaineering boot. It's one or the other. I'd get some boots that ski well, and just live with the poorer climbing performance. You can save some weight by selecting a boot with or adding a thermafit liner. I have a pair of Garmont GSM G-fit AT boots which are very light, stiff, and ski well. The weigh about the same as my Scarpa Invernos. The downside to these boots is plastic buckles. They save alot of weight, but I am not sure how durable they will be long term.

That's kinda what I figured, I suppose the problem could be somewhat mitigated by using the Silveretta's that are compatable with mtneering boots and just wear my climbing boots on flat approaches. But, I sure like the Dynafit system. fruit.gif

Then check out the Lifelink website; they have a dynafit mountaineering boot now. cool.gif You could have the lightest rig out there, especially if you put a intuition liner in it...

Since it looks like the same shell as their ski boot, I bet you could put a buckle on it to improve the ski performance a little.
