grandpa Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Anyone here have an opinion on the equipment manufactured and sold by "Gear4Rocks" in the Ukraine? Their prices are about 1/2 of the well-known brands, but that difference is nothing when compared to a broken foot/leg/neck if they are not as well built. Quote
epst10 Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 I've seen multiple threads reviewing their products over on mountainproject.com. While i have no personal experience with their gear, the general conciseness over there is that the price difference isn't worth it. I generally abide by the old adage buy nice or buy twice. http://www.mountainproject.com/v/gear4rocks-1axle-cam-set-of-six-review/107427860#a_107429830 http://www.mountainproject.com/v/gear4rocks-plastic-nuts-review/107026062#a_107026219 http://www.mountainproject.com/v/gear4rocks-metal-nut-set-review/107173089#a_107174841 Quote
boadman Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 They're perfectly safe, just heavier and not as nicely finished. I don't worry too much about the cost of cams though, as if you divide the price by the hours of use they get infinitesimally inexpensive. I figure you might as well by the nicest gear available. Kyro Posted April 11, 2013 Posted April 11, 2013 I saw a review on their plastic nuts. They actually sound pretty good. Cheap and light would make great pieces if you had to bail since they are quite cheap Quote
Lodestone Posted April 13, 2013 Posted April 13, 2013 Regarding the gear4rocks single axle cams: Wild Country abandoned axle nuts early on with Friends as they can loosen or unscrew completely. Gear4rocks touts this as a design decision to increase strength whereas many would see it as history not learned. Chad Quote
