ghostr21 Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 I am fairly new to the amazing sport of rock climbing. I am going to take a lead climbing class in April in order to learn how to lead climb for when I translate my love of gym climbing to outdoors. I was looking at the Bluewater Accelerator rope with about a 10.5mm diameter. Has anyone heard negative reviews about this rope? Is there another rope and diameter that would be suggested for, as much as I hate to admit it, a newbie? Quote
Farrgo Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 As a newer climber you should just go and buy the cheapest rope you can find that is 60m long and 10mm or greater. Unless you plan to use it in the mountains as well don't worry, or pay for dry-treatment. Check out justropes.com I always seem to find great deals on ropes through them. Quote
jon Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 You can use our price tool to find all the rope deals. Since many retailers don't use "climbing" in the product name "rope 60m" yields a good result. http://cascadeoutside.com/?sprod=rope+60m Quote
JZickler Posted February 3, 2013 Posted February 3, 2013 You can buy the Mammut Supernova all day long for $149. Dry treated and comes with a rope bag. Mammut ropes are durable and handle great. http://www.mountaingear.com/webstore/Gear/Climbing/Dynamic-rope/Mammut/10-mm-Supernova-with-Rope-Bag-Package/_/R-225379.htm Quote
lummox Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 Bluewater is a fine choice. Don't pay attention to anyone who suggests you scrimp on safety equipment quality. Quote
CaleHoopes Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 A very good resource with good prices is justropes.com. They have a coupon code of RBG2011 which will give you a 20% off. I am in the same boat as you and bought a New England Maxim 70m that I'm happy with. It's a great rope. Good luck. :-) Quote

CaleHoopes Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 ivan knows. He just got tired of the ropes and now just uses 2-ply (dry-treated). Quote
