keenwesh Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 I'm looking for a copy, but the cheapest one I can find is $2040. This is a plea to anyone who has a copy laying around they'd let go for a reasonable price. Also, alternate guides for the Banff/Jasper area would be welcome as well. Quote
genepires Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 for $2040, would never sell. but I might let you borrow a copy if you promise to return like a nice young man would. Quote
keenwesh Posted January 11, 2013 Author Posted January 11, 2013 if it comes down to that I would be grateful if I could borrow a copy, but I really want one of my own! On a related topic, what are the routes you'd do with 5 days up there, My buddy and I don't take rest days. Quote
obwan Posted January 11, 2013 Posted January 11, 2013 I saw them on amazon.com for $50 - well worth it. Quote
keenwesh Posted January 11, 2013 Author Posted January 11, 2013 I believe that was for the first edition... I'm wondering if more areas are covered in the 4th edition, or does it really matter that much? Quote
G-spotter Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 the first edition has around 150 routes and the 4th has more like 800... Quote
keenwesh Posted January 12, 2013 Author Posted January 12, 2013 yeah... sounds like the 4th is the one to get. Quote
obwan Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 Definitely the 4th edition is the one - the earlier ones will get you started for less pesos. Quote
genepires Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 3rd is fine too. That is the one I got. all the big routes are in the all the editions. but the info is much better in the 3rd and 4th. can't believe someone would buy a copy for thousands of $$$. capitalism. What the market will bear. not the cheap climbers market. Quote
G-spotter Posted January 12, 2013 Posted January 12, 2013 There are no routes listed at all in the Ghost in the 1st ed. for instance. If all you wanna climb is 80s routes like Polar Circus, Nemesis, Weeping Wall, Cascade and Professors the 1st ed would be overkill. Do you even need a guidebook to climb Weeping Wall? On the other hand even the 4th is out of date when it comes to cool stuff like the Rehab Wall in Evan Thomas or an accurate description of the present conditions post-highway blasting at Kicking Horse Canyon. gravsports-ice.com/icethreads will have all the current beta for stuff like that.
