tele turnin Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 (edited) Me a few others were thinking of skinning up the Muir in the near future (this weekend), but based off recent trip reports from Turns All Year it looks like the skiing up high won't be all that great. Any recommendations for skiing in the Paradise area? Somewhat new to the area, have climbed Rainier but never tried to ski in that area. Group members have necessary avy training (former ski patrollers, SAR, experience elsewhere) and gear just need some ideas on where we should set our sights. Thanks. Jim Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 A mellow tour is down the road from the Paradise parking lot, up to Mazama Ridge from the curve in the road, down the ridge to Reflection Lake, and follow the road/trail back to the parking lot. The route back is wanded. You can always go further up Mazama Ridge before heading down for a few more turns. Or if you want something shorter you can just head to Edith Creek basin for some laps or up to Panorama Point for laps. The snow from Pan Point and lower looks good - wind-blown up higher. Good luck, be safe. Quote
DPS Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 (edited) If the snow is better lower down, park at the large parking lot before you get to Paradise (can't remember the name). Boot up to Steven's Canyon Road and ski into Reflection Lakes and the Tatoosh and pick a bowl or line that looks good. Edited November 30, 2011 by DPS Quote
RaisedByPikas Posted November 30, 2011 Posted November 30, 2011 (edited) The lot that DPS is talking about is the Narada Falls parking lot. A really good website to plan tours is hillmap.com . Look for areas without thick trees or cliffs in the slope angle that your group is comfortable with. Edited November 30, 2011 by RaisedByPikas Quote
