AlpineMonkey Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 Black Diamond ice screws in the US are $60 (US dollars). I am up here in Canada and they are $36 (Canadian). Whats with the huge price difference? All BD stuff seems cheap in Canada. Quote
Matt Kidd Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 It is cheaper, but you are probably comparing the old Turbo here with the new Express south of the border. The Express screws are $49 up here at MEC. Still a good price to me... Quote
Edlinger Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 Black Diamond has always done stuff like this to Americans. Â It built itself on the backs of overpaying Americans and charged the Euros 1/3 the price...and then blocked or bullied any shipping creativity. Quote
Matt Kidd Posted November 13, 2011 Posted November 13, 2011 Don't know how it was, but BD stuff sure isn't cheaper in Europe now... I'm just speculating, but I would imagine that the mec prices are lower because of volume purchasing and reduced margin? Quote
AlpineMonkey Posted November 14, 2011 Author Posted November 14, 2011 I am not comparing the old turbo with the new express…The brand new BD stainless steal express screws are $36 (Canadian) in Canmore. Everywhere else in the states they are about $59.95. The new BD Cobra ice tools where I was were $300 (Canadian) whereas in the US they go for $335. I was told by a local that you can usually find them for about $270, but this was not the case where I was looking. Quote
RafalA Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 Uh, where exactly in Canmore? There is no way any shop in Canmore is selling these for $36... has to be a mistake somewhere. Ben (Vertical Addiction) is $49 and so is Valhalla Pure. No other shops in town... Â The Cobras, yes, they're $295. Can be found cheaper on sale... Quote
AlpineMonkey Posted November 14, 2011 Author Posted November 14, 2011 Hmmm...I swear I saw them for 36 in that little mountain shop in town. I don't know what its called, but on the main drag. Must have read the label wrong. Either way, 49 is still beats 59. Quote
RafalA Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 Ya, no way they'd be $36. That's cost or less. BD Express screws are $49 everywhere as all the shops match MEC prices. Quote
edwardsm Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 the only screws that touch $36 are the BD turbo's at MEC in the 10 or 13cm size... Â i WISH the express' were $36 here in Canada! hot damn! Quote
Matt Kidd Posted November 14, 2011 Posted November 14, 2011 Seems like BD has put some downward pressure on Grivel screw pricing as well. I don't remember the Helix and BD being so closely priced, and I think that the 360 was selling for $75 a year or two ago. Quote
