tvashtarkatena Posted September 13, 2011 Posted September 13, 2011 (edited) I've got the petition if any of you local yocals wish to sign it. I'm on Phinney Ridge in Seattle. New Approach WA This is a well written, fully funded initiative (for a change) that uses the current State Liquor Control Board infrastructure to sell and tax up to an ounce of marijuana at a time. This initiative is independent of the current medical marijuana system. New Approach is working through the legislature first...if they won't buck up, we'll put in on the ballot as an initiative for the 2012 election. Why? There are WAY too many folks in jail for toking. The criminal justice system discriminates against African Americans 3:1. The hyper expensive Drug War has failed miserably. This would take hundreds of millions of dollars off the state's deficit - money that could be spent better on other things. 75% of the tax revenues for this initiative go towards treatment and education, rather than incarceration. Adults should be able to smoke out if they wish without Big Brother's involvement, just as they are currently able to get sloshed on booze. Cigarettes and alcohol are more difficult for underage folks to get than pot, precisely because they are truly controlled substances, unlike the latter. PM me if you'd like sign/support this effort. I'm going to hang the petition outside my kitchen (red) door. Edited September 13, 2011 by tvashtarkatena Quote
