Kerr Adams Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Hey guys! Myself and a friend are planning to head up Mt. Rainier in october during our fall break and wanted someones opinion on the mountain in mid October. unfortunately i'm on a time constraint and the routes on the Mowich face have too long of an approach. could anyone offer some alternatives? thanks! saxybrian Posted August 12, 2011 Posted August 12, 2011 Check out the blog at: http://mountrainierclimbing.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html (this is last october) and you can review the routes there to see what they are like in Oct) If you want a fast route i'd suggest DC or Emmons Quote
JasonG Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 Given the slow melt and huge snowpack this year, I'd say that it won't be a normal Oct. on the mountain. Probably much better snow and ice conditions than normal.....Good luck! Quote
ScaredSilly Posted August 21, 2011 Posted August 21, 2011 Normal, what da ya mean? Ever heard of shifting base lines? The FA of both Liberty and Ptarmigan Ridges were made in Sept. Oct ascents were not that unusual. Of course ya gotta be a old fart to about the opportunity for nice fall ascents. Quote
