joe_catellani Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 A good sized rattlesnake was on the trail down from the top of Castle Rock. Moved off with a little encouragement, but wasn't that visible in the dappled light and light brush along the trail. Quote
Crillz Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 I've seen more rattle snakes so far this year around 11town, than any of the last 5 years. Maybe because of the late moisture this year and the cooler persistant temps. Still waiting to get snipered by one of those itty-bitty baby ones that you can't even see.... till it would be too late . Quote
stevetimetravlr Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 Kick rocks as you are hiking and use a hiking stick that you pound on the ground as you go. It lets them know you are coming, and then they aren't surprised when you step over the top of them. Ive walked over and past many a rattler in this way, its when you surprise them that they will surprise you! Quote
Moonshiner Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 Saw a couple in Mazama last weekend too, almost stepped on a 2 footer, solid adrenaline rush! Kicking rocks and using a stick is what worked the best. Quote
KaskadskyjKozak Posted June 10, 2011 Posted June 10, 2011 They were out in force at Tieton two weekends ago as well. Quote
Eric K Posted June 11, 2011 Posted June 11, 2011 I almost stepped on largeish one (3 maybe 4 feet long)while on my way down the trail from the Duty Doom in Leavenworth today. He was not moving so we went off trail and around. Eric Quote
chef_raekwon Posted June 13, 2011 Posted June 13, 2011 Moonshiner, were you at Goat Wall or headed up to the Fire Wall? Quote
