prole Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 Don't tell Jayb... Why not? After looking around at the sources for this blog post, it's clear that its author, you, and Jay are the only ones who give a damn. Quote
Peter_Puget Posted December 27, 2010 Author Posted December 27, 2010 Hmm I am glad you're begining to come around to my way of thinking! For those who haven't checked out the link the story was broken by reporter Daniel J Watkin the New York Times at the end of October. I have long been suspect of the reporting in the NYT. prole seems to agree that it sucks as well. Quote
JayB Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 Saw this news item and mostly thought it was amusing since AFAIK it's not public money paying the stagehands, and AFAIK there aren't any state or nationwide government rules that force theater companies to pay stagehands as well as trauma surgeons - and the only ones who have a stake in this are the performers, patrons, and other theater/performance folks. JayB Posted December 27, 2010 Posted December 27, 2010 I should note that I regard anything that makes it more difficult to bring *any* musical of any kind to any stage anywhere is something that I consider of massive benefit to mankind, and hope that stage-hands will demand and receive a fifty-fold raise for musicals, and a thousand-fold raise for anything done by Andrew Loyd Weber. Ah the interesting thing is these are not-for-profit organizations and they recieve a subsidy directly the fact that donations to them are tax deductible. The long arm of the government is clearly on display even here.... Quote

Some of us more libertarian types might argue that the long arm of the law would be that much longer if every community theatre group in the country was taxed like a multi national asset stripping corporation...oh, wait. They don't really pay taxes, either. You've got baseball and a channel changer...you're good to go. Some of us non-toaster brains require just a wee bit more variety on the cultural front...even if its relative. Quote
Peter_Puget Posted December 28, 2010 Author Posted December 28, 2010 Oh and don't forget the property was acquired mostly thru the use of eminent domain. Thousands of families were displaced.... Quote
tvashtarkatena Posted December 28, 2010 Posted December 28, 2010 Fortunately, the Boring Cuntz Movement hasn't yet fielded any candidates...you guys are stuck with voting the Sociopath ticket for now. PP must make for a killer date. JayB hitched up with a doc, so he needn't worry about where to take the wifie out on the town...ever. Quote
