Choada_Boy
What are you practicing these days? I figured out the "CAGED" system for both the major and minor scales, looking to get more melodic...
kevbone
What are you practicing these days? Alternating picking and sweeping. Getting my scales down within different rhythms. Basically just keeping my chops up.
kevbone
I practice so I can be good like him one day. He is truly one of the very best. [video:youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ES1RypBww_g
hafilax
I've been working on some flat picking. I picked one of the songs from BanjoBen's youtube lessons and have been working it out. Can't get close to full speed yet. [video:youtube]bnPMuWJKIg4
kevbone
I think we are the only three guitar players on cc.com

[video:youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ES1RypBww_g On some of those upper runs is he using a hormonizer? My hands are way to small to be any good at that kind of shredding. Are there any guitar greats with stubby fingers? You guys might be guitarists. I'm more of a hack.
Weekend_Climberz
All scales are just the same pattern up and down the fretboard. What you should work on is the different Modes. This will allow you to move to different scales depending on the chord changes. At least if you're interested in shredding some bad ass solos. And I'm sure Kevboner knows that John Petrucci is the best guitar player currently alive on this planet. [video:youtube]
kevbone
John Petrucci is an amazing player but the best? I feel Paul Gilbert rips all over him..... Paco is the best alive IMO [video:youtube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sBKarHlP4KU

So if I start with a scale, then begin with some degree within that scale, that would be considered a mode of that scale, correct? Ex: Key of C, start on A, ABCDEFGA would be a mode (Dorian? I don't have time to look it up right now...)
