murraysovereign Posted July 22, 2010 Share Posted July 22, 2010 ... longer summers have led to marmots - which are ground-dwelling 'squirrels' - waking up earlier from hibernation, giving them more time to reproduce and gain weight before the next hibernation period. The population is also increasing in size because marmots are reproducing earlier so their offspring is more likely to survive during winter.
