Pilchuck71 Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 Looking to incorporate hang board training into my regimen and am wondering peoples opinions on hangboard versus rock rings. I am already doing a pull up regimen including frenchies on a free swinging pull up bar. I understand the concept of grip training on more realistic hold shapes versus the pull up bar. I am looking specifically for recommendations on: 1) boards versus rings 2) Which brands are preferable and why for either device Thanks in advance, Tyson Quote
Coldfinger Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Rings (Metolius)! Much easier on the old elbows. Neither the board nor rings are a substitute for a gym, but they're nice for occasional use and especially stretching. Get boring fast tho..... I'd build an 8x8 tiltable wall if you are really serious about training and have no gym. Quote
marc_leclerc Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Both... do muscle ups, levers and pull ups on the rings.. do hangs on the board to work your weakest holds (ie, pinches, monos, crimps and so on) Quote
layton Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 if you have to get just one, get the rings - you can do almost anything you could on a hangboard, more portable, cheaper, easier on the elbows and shoulders. I rigged mine with a sideways angle as well to do pinches easier. Don't do monos for the love of god Quote
fern Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 you can easily bolt the rockrings to a board if you want the rigid thing. But probably would not want to saw a hangboard in half to make the danglers. Quote
Pilchuck71 Posted May 17, 2010 Author Posted May 17, 2010 Thank you folks. I think the rings it is. I appreciate the input. Quote
