Favorite Rechargeable Batteries

I just got a new Hero Camera and I am excited to go out and play, however, I realize this thing is going to be a battery hog. Gopro recommends energizer lithium or energizer rechargeable NiMH batteries.

 

Does anyone have any rechargeable lithium-ion AAA recommendations or other recommendations of rechargeable batteries for camera/headlamp/whatever-other-gadget-is-laying-around use?

For the last couple of years I have used ENELOOP batteries by Sanyo.

The hold a charge very well when not in use. But most important, they are less subject to losing charge under conditions of cold, such as we often experience climbing with headlamps at night. I also use the same AA size Eneloops in my GPS, and my headlamp.

The Eneloops also seem to be quite durable getting knocked around in your pack etc.

 

I have been very happy with the ones I have. They are also available as Sony CycleEnergy - if they say made in Japan, and have a white ring around the positive end then it's apparently a rebadged Eneloop. The Eneloops also are capable of sustaining a high current draw which is important for todays high performance LEDs.

 

The Energizer NiMH batteries tend to be junk IME. They advertise super high capacity, but tend to only deliver that if you use them fresh out of the charger. Leave them for a couple days and they are half drained.

Another vote for Eneloops. I've been using them as my primary camera batteries and they have worked great, summer an winter.

I field tested the Energizer NiMH in the Brooks Range this past summer: they don't hold a charge worth a darn. Unreliable in cold. They were kept as close to body temp as possible at all times.
