Figger_Eight Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 Crampons needed on N. Ridge of Stewey right now? Doing the full North Ridge and am wondering about glacier at the base and snowfields in the Cascadian. Or do I get to leave them in the car? Thanks in advance! Quote
Pete_H Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 Negative. Its dry getting to the base and I can gaurantee that the Cascadian is completely dry. You may want them if coming in from Ingalls side, but I would bet you can do it without them. Quote
needtoclimb Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 Did upper north ridge a couple of weeks ago, and crossed the glacier in tennis shoes, no crampons. (came from Ingalls lake side,) Quote
cascadesdj Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 Definitely needed crampons 8/20 late afternoon to get to gully for upper NR. Also, some dicy work getting off the glacier onto the lower glacier. Quote
Bug Posted August 23, 2009 Posted August 23, 2009 I was on the snowfeild right below the glacier on the morning of the 19th. Snow was soft enough to get a purchase with light boots in places but melted down to hard ice in other places. I backed off. Quote

Bug Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 Yes. Aluminum pons would be perfect up there right now. Quote
cascadesdj Posted August 24, 2009 Posted August 24, 2009 Oops! In my previous post, I the last part should say getting on to the lower part of the gully, not getting onto the glacier. Aluminum crampons were perfect for the hard snow/ice parts. Quote
