i'll be in washington end of august to begining of september. I'm looking for someone to go up to the top of mt. adams in one day with me. i'm in fairly good shape. The south trail will be the one taken... I believe thats the easiest way up from what i've read.

Beware of the south route at that time. I did it last year and it was all melted out to the false summit. That scree field sucks bad... Bad.

I climbed Adams (S side) over labor day 2003. to elaborate on what Bishopp66 warns about:

1) snow level somewhere around 8500 feet(?)

2) snow on route until about 11,000 - then 600 feet of scree up to Piker's

3) snow on the flat between Piker's and the summit

4) 600+ feet of scree up to the summit.

The scree is like this: step up a foot, lose 11.5 inches. good times!

I went up the south route a couple weeks ago - 7/25 - and there was good snow all the way to the false summit.

From http://www.fs.fed.us/gpnf/recreation/current-conditions/mta-climbing-report.shtml: "SOUTH CLIMB trail report: The trail is snow free…The snow is quickly disappearing from False Summit."

So, in just 2 weeks it's all gone. The Trout Lake ranger station can tell you real-time conditions when you are ready to go but it sounds like teh suck now.
