Dave C Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 I am going to be out in the area taking an avi class at AAI and was wondering if anyone is interested in making an attempt on Mt. Baker/Shuksan. I know it is a little far out given how drastic the snow conditions seem to change, but just wanted to get an idea if anyone is interested. Quote
Mtnclimber Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 I have done Shucksan in March-----conditions are hit and miss-------really have to watch the avi risk and weather. I have been rained on after during a high snow year--had really scary avi conditions. The best winter route is poss the North face---easy access---fun climbing (ascent route is your descent route)----If you are a good skier you can also ski the North face. Mt. Baker in March can be a long slog-----turn it into a backcountry ski trip----fun skiing off the top. I live in Bend now so I am stuck skiing up the Sisters---not as exciting. Quote
dgleighton Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 What routes are you considering for both? Quote
Choada_Boy Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 Glacier Creek road is CLOSED 1 mile from SR542, FYI, so no play time in there for a while, unless you're into hyperslogging. Quote
