prole Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 Peter, what exactly is so alarming about Biden's statement that would require a full court press by the media? The US is fighting two wars, the global financial system is in flames, and the US is broke. That Obama "is going to be tested" seems like a statement of fact rather than a cause for alarm. Please clarify. Quote
Doug Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 Is the context here "we know that if Obama gets elected there will be another terrorist attack to test his mettle"? Or is it "because of the state of world affairs at the moment within six months there will be something coming to a head such that it'll test the mettle of the new administration"? Quote
rob Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 Media Bias from the horses mouth! It's highly offensive that you would refer to Dan Rather as a horse. Just more of the republiskank smear campaigns. Quote
billcoe Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 Biden didn't say Terrorists at all. He said "Like John Kennedy". Kennedy was looking at the literal end of the world as it was a potential total nuclear war with the Soviets. That's what Biden is talking about. Like he says: "MARK MY WORDS". Pretty startling and surprising as Biden is a pretty savvy guy generally. full quote: " "Mark my words, it will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy. The world is looking. We're about to elect a brilliant 47-year-old senator president of the United States of America...Watch, we're gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy."" Doug Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 So, here's the quote (accurate because I copied it from Fox News): "Mark my words. It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy," Biden said in Seattle. "The world is looking. Watch, we're gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy." Hmmm....doesn't say terrorist attack. Maybe the global warming thing will melt some ice and the new administration will have to figure out a way to placate all the canadians who cant participate in fantasy hockey or curling leagues? Seriously, comparing it to what Kennedy faced (Missile Crisis) could lead one to believe that he thinks someone'll mess with the US. Quote
billcoe Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 It's interesting in that when interviewed or polled, most Americans feel that some "Terrorists" are our biggest enemies, yet China and Russia are still global players internationally - and not really our "Buddies". In fact, Communist China has proclaimed for home consumption that they will forcibly annex Taiwan within the next few years. Hmmmm.... Quote
rob Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 no surprise, given the psychotic obsession the current administration has on this topic. Quote
billcoe Posted October 22, 2008 Posted October 22, 2008 I think the correct term is "Red China". Hmm, good point, how about we say "Capitalist Communist China" or "Communist Capitalist China" and split the difference? I don't think they go by "Red" anymore. I think it's "Republic of China" for Taiwan and ....hmmm...must be something...ahhh, wiki has it "People's Republic of China". Ahah! Suspiciously, I checked the CIA factbook site for the name, and the Taiwan/"Capitalist Communist China" reunification/war is totally absent. Surely I must have missed it. They have a long page on multinational conflicts China has with Inda and many others... https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/ch.html Quote
