Jim23 Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 A few questions for you guys that know the area and conditions this time of year: 1) are there bugs up around cascade pass/boston basin camp sites in mid-June? 2) are rock pitons at all useful on the rock ridge routes in the area in early summer? thanks for any info you can pass on! -Jim Quote
Rad Posted June 9, 2008 Posted June 9, 2008 Jim, June is unpredictable. They are expecting about a foot of fresh snow up there tonight. For current conditions, check this NPS site: NCNP current conditions website For more info call the NCNP ranger station in Marblemount. You should not need any rock pitons. Removable protection (nuts, cams, long slings) should suffice. Please do not hammer pitons into any of the classic routes up there. Thanks. Rad Quote
Skeezix Posted June 10, 2008 Posted June 10, 2008 1) Bugs should not be so bad as to require DEET. 2) No pitons. Clean pro only. Small alpine rack. 3) It's skiing season up there right now... and probably into July. Quote
curtveld Posted June 13, 2008 Posted June 13, 2008 For current conditions, check this NPS site: NCNP current conditions website Be sure to check the 'roads' link, as the Cascade River road has had a number of closures lately. There is an ongoing thread in the Access forum of this site as well. Quote
