triclmbr Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 Heading to Hood in a couple of Weeks (May 9) Just trying to find out what type of weather and temps. to expect this time of year. Thanks all Quote
DavidHiers Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 In general, you'll be in good shape. The mazamas have about 20 climbs scheduled for May, which is a pretty good indication that conditions in most Mays are expected to be fair. This spring is running a bit late and cold, of course. Quote
triclmbr Posted April 29, 2008 Author Posted April 29, 2008 Thanks david. what would you say the average temp would be? Quote
ivan Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 an exact # for the temp would be silly - expect it to be cold during your start in the darkness (long pants and shirt/shell layer oughta be fine - you'll want a fleece or down jacket for breaks- a balaclava and fleece mitts too). it'll be warm by mid morning and unless its blowing hard, you'll be able to walk down in tshirt. after cruising up the hill in bluebird spring conditions, be sure to come back in a winter storm to see what the mtn feels like when she's being a vindicative little bitch! ScaredSilly Posted April 29, 2008 Posted April 29, 2008 Std answer ... 20s-60s, party sunny between scattered snow showers, chance of horizontal sleet with low lying clouds. Winds 0-60 mph with reverse gusts up to 100 mph on the summit. Freezing levels from 6000k - 12000k rain showers possible at lower elevations along with white out conditions. Quote
triclmbr Posted April 30, 2008 Author Posted April 30, 2008 Thank you this is all very helpful! I've been trying to figure out what to pack, now I know. Quote
pdk Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 Anyone have any recent photos of I-rock? Either side. Curious how conditions have changed over the last couple weeks and whether there's any ice on the north side. thanks Quote
burglar Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 pdk - Photo of my trip up last weekend. Definitely some ice in the saddle area and I'm sure on the North side as well. Quote
pdk Posted April 30, 2008 Posted April 30, 2008 excellent, thanks. Looking about like I'd hoped. We were up the weekend before and the climbing was great - lots of good ice in the cracks even though the rime was shite (redundant?). It just took some digging to find the good stuff. Quote
