wide mountaineering boots

Does anyone know of any wide boots I can try? So far I have tried the Asolo expert gv and the sportiva trango s. Looking for general purpose climbing boots, glacier travel some short vertical stuff but nothing too technical. Thanks.

In my experience, Lowa boots are pretty wide.

I have had a lot of trouble with boots being too narrow and I'm trying out some Vasque Ice 9000 this winter. They're not leather but they feel a lot more flexible then my old Koflachs. They seem pretty good so far.

I've had good luck with Garmont boots on my duck feet.

thanks. I will check out the lowas. I think the vasque ice 9000 seems a little too stiff, but I will check out their other boots. Does anyone know who carries garmont boots in Portland?

I have flippers for feet. I wear Koflachs since they're the only plastic boot I've ever been able to get on my feet without a hydraulic press.

 

For leathers, I wear La Sportiva Makalus. A wee tight, but not so much so that I just plain won't wear them. They seem to "ease up" a bit after a few miles each day.

I think that Kayland actually makes wide size mountaineering boots. They're probably the only ones though. And good luck finding a pair to try on...

Hey, if you don't need the warmth of a double boot or Duratherm, check out the AKU Extreme GTX or EMS Arete (same boot). Being all leather you can use a rubbing bar on them to widen them to fit your feet exactly and those are excellent boots and will save you $$ (and you can wear them around town or hiking).

 

Otherwise try the INVERNO!

I am definitely looking for leathers not a plastic boot cant stand em. Didn't think about trying to stretch out leathers thanks for the idea that may be the solution.

I gots wide duck feet also, and am currently wearing Sportiva and Scarpa. Garmonts are generally on the wide side with the exception of the Towers which, for some reason, are narrower than any other boot out there. Kaylands run wider yet, but have a touch more volume. Boreal's are wide but have a touch less volume. The Vasque Ice 9000's have a wide midfoot, but seem to taper at the toes. They stopped making them, and I'm not sure if the new ones are the same way.

Just to update. After trying on more boots than I knew existed I have narrowed it down to the Scarpa Triolet and the Lowa Mt. expert. The lowas are much more stiff than the scarpas so I think I am going to go with the scarpas. I didn't get a chance to try on any Kaylands although they seemed promising. Too bad there isn't more stores who actually carry a large selection. Oregon Mt. Community ended up being the place to find boots. Thanks again for all of your help and have a good climbing season.
