as for smith, the two options are either the watts guide or the select guide by thesenga. the watts book is something like 15 years old, but is still a fairly complete catalogue of routes at smith. the thesenga guide is much less complete, but is a good resource for someone new to the area as it steers the climber toward the tried and true favorites.

the watts guide is my fav guide book simple b/c he uses such happy verbs as "scamper" and "frolic" in the route descriptions

Yeah and "putrid", "pointless" and "death tour".

you can really tell the routes he dislikes. He musta had a thesaurus handy while writing the guide. Lets hope the new guide is as descriptive! (if we ever see it)

Looking for your opinion on best guide book for the areas.

Vantage,Tieton,Smith,etc.

Several to choose from sometimes. So what's your favorite.

There are some helpful online guides, too. Like Index Town Walls and Climbing Washington

Also good beta on routes and areas at Mountainproject.com and Summitpost.org.

The Watts guidebook seems to be one of the best guidebooks to any crag area esp. considering the number of routes he includes (my humble opinion). Seems no matter how obscure the line, I always get the impression the guy has actually been on it. Can't say the same about the very limited Thesenga guidbook (pretty route overlay photos tho)
