Climbing around Anchorage in August?

So it looks like I'm going to be in the Anchorage area for a wedding around August 8th. I think the wedding is actually in Girdwood. Is it worth extending my trip up there to stay and climb? I'm not familiar with the climbing in that part of

Alaska.

Rock climbing or mountaineering? There is a bit of rock climbing right out of Girdwood off the main highway but nothing that I remember would be worth extending your trip (IMHO). Unless your really into mediocre sport climbs. If you are looking to bag some peaks then you might just want to stay till winter sets in.

Be a little more specific... what type of routes are you looking to climb? Lots of fun climbing can be done in August. And if it's raining you can go fishing for reds.

Anybody know much about Linear Accelerator in August? I hiked back there a few times last fall but the clouds never lifted. Specifically, do you need two ice tools? Two ropes? Rock shoes? Pins? Much more than a few nuts and little cams? I've heard it's 5.6, but how sustained? I guess these are all things I'll have to find out for myself, but I sure would love to have a lighter pack tromping up that trail!
