kevino Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 I apparently I put a hole in my black diamond gloves. Its on a finger tip. I was thinking of either using duct tape or a gore-tex patch thing you can buy for like $4. Any other suggestions or home remedies people have used successfully? Quote
pup_on_the_mountain Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 Goretex patches are expensive, as compared to say, nylon sticky patches for tent repair. I fixed a reasonably big tear in one of my BD gloves, just below the palm, using a tent repair patch. The hole was barely big enough to get a piece of the sticky patch inside (with the sticky surface facing out). I also backed the whole thing up with a thin layer of Seamgrip (marked for tent repair as well), before putting a patch from the outside on top of the hole. The patch by itself is not breathable, but its not like that will be preventing me from sending sick gnar. Quote
Blake Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 Seam Grip. It'll last longer than the rest of the glove. If you have a chunk of missing fabric too big to fill in W/Seamgrip, you'll need some tiny bit of scrap cloth to cut to fit the hole first, then seamgrip over the entire thing. Quote
G-spotter Posted February 6, 2008 Posted February 6, 2008 Holes in gloves suck and generally patches do not stay patched for long. The best glove is the one having the most durability. Quote
marylou Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 BD has excellent Customer Service, you should see if they want to give you a new pair. Quote

hafilax Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 Fixing a hole where the rain gets in... Does Shoe Goo (or similar) work at all for gluing a torn seam? Quote
Ade Posted February 7, 2008 Posted February 7, 2008 I use nylon self adhesive patches like you use for tent flysheets. Any sewing type store will sell them. Then I go over the edges with seam grip. Works really well. Quote
cdurf Posted February 8, 2008 Posted February 8, 2008 Seamgrip works mate! I've used it on gloves and crampon puncutred pants. Step one use scotch tape on one side (inside) of the hole or tare then goop the stuff on the other side of the fabric and let it sit. after it cures then remove the tape. The stuff is rubbery even at low temps. Quote
dbconlin Posted February 9, 2008 Posted February 9, 2008 I have used a needle/thread to stitch the hole, then cover in seamgrip, with good results; the tape or patch idea then covered in seam grip also sounds like a good bet. Quote
