5.12Dreamer Posted January 15, 2008 Posted January 15, 2008 Boeing Alpine Assoc. is having an ice climbing outing in Lillooet this weekend. Just want to give some warning before you find more people at the Rambles area than you hoped. We'll have about twelve total and we'll do our best to lessen impact to any one particular area, conditions depending. If anyone has input on other good areas for n00bs, by all means, please share. Weeks ago I was also eyeing Honeyman Falls, although with the warm weather over the last couple weeks I don't see how it could be in shape. And, to ease fears: we are not planning on visiting Marble en masse and bringing it all down. Thanks and see you up there, Tom Quote
Rafael_H Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 I heard that great alpine climbs often require tyrollean-s across rivers. A convenient, easy place is right across Synchronicity... I'd donate a ratcheting thingy for rope tightening. Quote
jmace Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 Ive heard honeyman described as the most dangerous ice in Lillooet and area..maybe not the best choice for hanging around on..? Quote
jordansahls Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 The Outdoor Center at Western is taking a group up to Lillooet during the same time. No idea how large of a group it is. Quote
Jens Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 Ive heard honeyman described as the most dangerous ice in Lillooet and area..maybe not the best choice for hanging around on..? I would have to agree about hanging around. A big ass chunk of the falls came off it once while we were climbing it. When in, though it is a classic. Next door, Cherry ice is a perfect spot to teach beginners and close enough for those nursing Reynolds hangovers. And for you other WA cc'ers, Lillooet is better than Hyalite and I consistently make the drive in sub 5 hours from Seattle. If you buy me a beer I'll give you directions for my shortcut. Oh and buy Don's book! It's really good. Quote
G-spotter Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 Spray Creek Falls is a perfect place to teach beginners, is in if Honeyman's in, is safer and has SPRAY right in its name. How can you go wrong? Quote
5.12Dreamer Posted January 16, 2008 Author Posted January 16, 2008 Awesome; we'll have a look. Thanks G-Spotter. Rafael, after you wade the river to anchor our rope on the other side I'll be happy to Tyrolean across! Quote
northvanclimber Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 Next door, Cherry ice is a perfect spot to teach beginners and close enough for those nursing Reynolds hangovers. Took my g/f to Cherry ice a couple weeks ago and the ice was pretty fat. very easy approach too. the only thing is that it's not very big so won't accomodate a large number of people... Quote
5.12Dreamer Posted January 16, 2008 Author Posted January 16, 2008 Thanks. Do you think you could have two lines working simultaneously? I've never been up to it; it looks narrow from the highway but I know it's foreshortened from that angle. Quote
dbb Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 cherry ice is about 10 ft wide. two ropes would be a lot to ask of poor cherry ice. Quote
