"Your time" is when you make a big enough mistake that you can't recover from it. I am reminded of the guy I was riding with across eastern Montana who hit some black ice while accelerating and went into a spin at 65mph.

Heard on the car radio last night on the way to the (new) Vancouver Cliffhanger:

"I try to always be present in the moment, because it might turn out to have been the defining moment of your life."

- Joe Wright, director of Atonement

So I turned off the radio and tried to pay attention to traffic.

The way I see it, when your number is up - your number is up. You can run a statistical analysis and arrive at apparent safer mode of climbing. However, someone is going to bite it no matter what they are doing, even driving to the trail head.

Danger...subjective or objective? A person can choose more or less of either on rock or snow. There are too many variables to strictly determine which is more dangerous. I have a 4 year old daughter and a wfie who encourages me to do what I do. A great life for sure. I feel more at risk driving my car some days.

Are you more likely to push the envelope on rock, ice or an alpine slope?
