snowfoxx Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 Where is the best place to climb in Western US in the sun in January? Quote
ivan Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 is there anyplace outside san diego (well, that ain't on fire currenlty)? no conditions are too shitty to render climbing at beacon rock unfun! Quote
kurthicks Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 any place that lives within the desert ecosystem. chase the sun. Quote
Off_White Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 Hard to find anyplace that's a sure thing, but San Diego is perhaps more likely than other places. The fires are out, and from what I've seen, having that undergrowth burnt out around parts of Woodson has made all kinds of things readily accessible. For longer/multi pitch things, El Cajon Mountain, Eagle Peak, and Corte Madera are good possibilities. Canon Tajo will likely be cold, they don't call it Poor Man's Patagonia for nothing. If you're considering San Diego, PM me and I'll blabber at you some more. Cochise can be great, or can be cold. As a back up, something will be the right temperature on Mt Lemmon, but the lower on the hill, the funkier the rock. Red Rocks and JT can be good, but they can also be cold. Hueco, but it's really about the pebble wrestling, and the modern business about having a guide is a real turn off. Quote
