June. Make sure there is a high pressure ridge over the mountain. Bring your map and compass and know how to use them. If you count on an electronic device, make sure you keep the batteries warm and dry.

Go to the Rainier site and find the list of things to take.

Make sure you practice the self arrest and crevasse rescue techniques so that all of you can help get someone out of a crevass if you fall in.

Be ready to catch a lot of crap on this site. You should have posted this in the newbie section/nuetral zone.

enjoy - teaching yourself to climb, if you really commit to it, brings an excellent feeling of self-sufficiency - don't be one of these wankers that climbs 1 mountain a year and goes around telling everyone "i'm a climber" - it's a life-long pursuit -hood's an excellent mountain to start w/ (assuming you do the south side first) - buy "freedom of the hills" and study/practice w/ it like its da bible - get yourself scared - make mistakes and learn from them - make friends on this site and elsewhere that climb and apprentice yourself - then climb w/ other newbies and share the knowledge

When you get frostbit up there, don't puss-out and go to a surgeon to have the dead parts removed... cut 'em off yourself or just let 'em fall off.

In fact, don't go to a doctor at all except with the aim to demonstrate that you really don't need his/her ilk (unless you need a lot of sewing done after you or your partner go slasher-wild during the opening of your bivy Tauntaun).
