I am just getting into mountaineering and in dire need of someone with some experience to go with that would be willing to teach me. I have done a lot of hiking and camping and now I want to make the transition to mountaineering. I pretty much have the basic gear like clothes, boots, axe, crampons, helmet, tent...etc. If I need anything once I find someone to climb with, then I am sure I can grab it.

I really don't wanna have to go and learn solo. Anyone interested?

I may be intersted, in exchange for free medical services =)

Nah, OHSU doesn't have a program in Oriental Medicine. They are strictly a western allopathic school. I am attending the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine in SE pdx, soon to be relocated downtown. Its nice because my college has a partnership with OHSU that allows me to do clinical rotations in the Health and Healing Center at the Waterfront. So I kind of get the best of both worlds.

Wanna climb? :)

I would have no problem driving up to WA as far as seattle for a weekend of climbing. I wish I could find some people in OR to climb with though. You would think having Hood, Sisters, Adams, and St, Helens near by would result in a lot of people around PDX climbing. I dunno....

Where would you take me up in WA?

Gotta be careful, Doc. In Oregon, when many of us say "climbing" we mean mountaineering, as in "Hood, Sisters, Adams," etc.

In Washington, they mean "whatever I can approach within 2 minutes of a freeway exit."

Just kidding, WA folks!

But seriously, shoot me a note. Might be game for a hill or two as training.

Whassup Doc? (couldn't resist =^)

Shameless plug - Check out classes with the Mazamas.

www.mazamas.org

All class schedules are posted to their web site under Education. All classes are open to non-members. All lectures are free and open to anyone to audit - even if you are not enrolled, you can still learn a lot from attending a lecture on rock anchors or crevasses rescue, for example.

The Skill Builders classes are a good way to get your feet wet. These are 1 evening lecture and 1-2 day field sessions in topics like anchors, crevasse rescue, avalanche awareness and navigation.

Have a look!

I am in the same boat but would like to meet up with some rookies as well as experienced.

I have used Rondenee skiis several times and might buy a pair at the OMC ski swap this weekend.

I am about to purchase some rondenee skiis to summit but have only a little experience. I love climbing mountains, skiing, climbing, etc... And I love Chinese medicine and philosophy.

Hey all,

I don't know if anyone is reading this post any more, but I recently moved to PDX and am definitely interested in getting into the alpine game as often as possible. I train at PRG M,W,F usually, but would rather be mountaineering. Did a NOLS mtneering course in Alaska this summer, have all the basic gear + snow, rock, and some ice pro, good tent, ropes and other stuff. Don't have a ton of experience but feel good about my judgement and don't mind getting humbled by skilled partners. This season (for lack of dollars) I will be snowshoeing it, but am happy to rent AT skiis and figure it out.
