tazz Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 Trip: Enchantments 2/26-5/28 - Date: 5/26/2007 Trip Report: This is almost 2 weeks late... Those who lurk at “other sites” have seen the report. So I will spare you all and share the shorter version and some images: Just a fun slog up to the Chants with MCash and Janet... Asscrack pass $#@% sucks with a heavy pack! Sticking to day trips up there from now on! Some Postholeing on the way up kicking steps with packs took forever, it seems. On the way down two days later, it was icy in the morning. Perfect cramponing. Not one of us had any desire to climb Dragontail to sit in the clouds (why?) so we waited and waited and said screw it lets head to Little Annapura which was in the sun all day. Long ass posthole slog in the 50 MPH winds to Little Annapurna. The descent back to camp was one wallow fest! Sneaky breakable crust would just drop from under ya all of a sudden and you are up to your crotch, this went on for the entire trip back. Oh yeah, did I mention the winds?! Sucked! Was wishing I knew how to ski or had my board. Mcash scrambled up Witches Tower from Little Annapurna. Winds proceeded to get worse and worse through the day. By dinner time the gusts where around 70-80mph with sustained 60mpr. It was a battle to keep from being smothered and attacked by the tent as it was shoved around by the gusts. Whiskey and good friends forced in a tent at 7pm for some word association and laughter! Nothing better than that! Wind chill that evening...Sucked!! The temp dropped all the way down to 21degrees that night...in the tent. It sounded like a freight train till 4am. It was hard to sleep. No one of us slept well, if at all. Oh yeah and a $#%! $#@%$ $#@%#$! crow stole our food!!! Hope it is up there with the worse case of the shits! Got to love the chants! Asgaard still has lots of snow but it is going fast. I would guess that the trail will be mostly melted out in a few weeks. (If the sun ever come back again) Lakes are all starting to thaw. Plenty of blow down..they might have it cleaned up for permit time. Dragontail glacier route is perfect. Colchuck is still looking good but the boulder field and lower moraine is melted out pretty fast. Fun times!! some more random shots... Quote
