Off_White Posted May 22, 2007 Share Posted May 22, 2007 Seems like this sort of thing is all the rage. This is a pretty major trunk road through the Gifford Pinochet forest. Road 23 between Randle and Trout Lake is snow covered and impassible. There is a complete washout of the road just south of Baby Shoe Pass. This segment will be closed indefinitely. mattp Posted May 22, 2007 Share Posted May 22, 2007 When they were working on the road ten or fifteen years ago there was a detour route that may or may not be available to get past the current washout. In view of all the roads and trails that are out, and the daily news release about how such and such road will not be repaired in the foreseeable future due to budget constraints, I'm surprised we're not hearing more about a budget crisis. catbirdseat Posted May 22, 2007 Share Posted May 22, 2007 I saw an article in today's PI that the Mountain Loop Hwy probably won't open for yet another year (it's been closed for 3 years), because of additional damage from the storm in November. Isn't she supposed to be our advocate? It would be an interesting debate to see if that funding was really needed. "Fix this"? You are assuming it is broken and not better off with less money. Wouldn't you rather pay for important things like schools and public safety and put the difference in your pocket where it should be?
