Off_White Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 Seems like this sort of thing is all the rage. This is a pretty major trunk road through the Gifford Pinochet forest. Road 23 between Randle and Trout Lake is snow covered and impassible. There is a complete washout of the road just south of Baby Shoe Pass. This segment will be closed indefinitely. At this time, there is no estimate of when repairs will be made. source Quote
billcoe Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 Amazing coinkidink, I was checking that area out on a map last night and lining up some exploring trips. Quote
mattp Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 When they were working on the road ten or fifteen years ago there was a detour route that may or may not be available to get past the current washout. In view of all the roads and trails that are out, and the daily news release about how such and such road will not be repaired in the foreseeable future due to budget constraints, I'm surprised we're not hearing more about a budget crisis. catbirdseat Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 I saw an article in today's PI that the Mountain Loop Hwy probably won't open for yet another year (it's been closed for 3 years), because of additional damage from the storm in November. They can only work on it in the month of August because of Salmon spawning. Quote
billcoe Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 BTW, I'm OK with the forest service personel who are looking for a new mission finding new jobs and just leaving the roads washed out. Quote
ericb Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 Question - seems like an epidemic of no access and no funding for all these local/state/federal agencies. What's Gregoire doing to fix this? Isn't she supposed to be our advocate? Quote

Isn't she supposed to be our advocate? It would be an interesting debate to see if that funding was really needed. "Fix this"? You are assuming it is broken and not better off with less money. Wouldn't you rather pay for important things like schools and public safety and put the difference in your pocket where it should be? Quote
marylou Posted May 22, 2007 Posted May 22, 2007 The gov doesn't have a lot of sway over funding for federal lands. Quote
