111
Eugene Parks and Rec (and the volunteer group?) deserves a huge for their work in fixing up columns. It looks great out there! I wasn't even scared to walk around barefoot!
Couloir
What exactly did they do? I've never considered it all that bad. Was there a bunch of broken glass or something?
111
improvements include: re-chipped the belayers area extensive rockwork between messageboard and p-lot graveled trail and steps from p-lot to chipped area cordoned off all climbing area with 1.5 ft dia. logs and large stones planted 3 maples tore out all the ivy past the cyclone fence on the wall installed park benches and a bike rack repainted message board  a lot of time went into this. syklone
I was there for the first time 2 weeks ago. I have to say that it is the best maintained climbing area I've been to, even better than rocky butte!
sweatinoutliquor
Yeah, I was down there this weekend and it looks freaking awesome. Hopefully the non-climbing folks reconize theefforts that's been done and refrain from smashing any more bottles! Good to see you down there 111. OldManRock
Its sure a lot different at the Columns since my first climbs there in the late 50's - Spent more time climbing down when the cities finest would tell us to "get down off those rocks !! or we will haul you off to jail" - We would come down, wander off, then come back and up we would go again - This was back in the time of pins, and we would do girdle traverses across the face. 111
saw someone doing the face traverse a while ago. It made quite a clusterfuck of ropes with theirs being horozontal under 3 or 4 other topropes.
