sk Posted May 8, 2007 Posted May 8, 2007 I'm down. COOL after my youngest graduates from high school, (10 years) lest make that happen Quote
i_like_sun Posted May 8, 2007 Author Posted May 8, 2007 Lets DO THIS MUFFY! I've wanted to go to Nepal and Tibet since I was a wee laddy! My old man (veteran climber/wanker) always talked about the Himalaya, so its been building for a while now... Like as you said, I'm not sure I need to summit. Just to go and get the feel might be enough. I always wonder about summits though...... Just minus the whole death and tissue loss scinario and I'm probably there. Lets go see this and this too! (although Anapurna would be the LAST peak I'd ever think about playing on...) Quote

Bill_Simpkins Posted May 12, 2007 Posted May 12, 2007 I heard the Chinese army is posted up there plucking off Tibeten sherpas with rifles. Very Sad! Quote
AlpineK Posted May 12, 2007 Posted May 12, 2007 That's pretty sick. It definately doesn't make me want to go to China. Quote
joblo7 Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 many close friends visited china last year and they ALL loved it. the people , the culture, temples, cities....... beauty is always in the eye of the beholder... the himalayas are mountains in the outer world and giants in the inner world....... bring your heart as yourself and behold the magic!........ Quote
AlpineK Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 So your cool with Chinese soldiers plugging Tibetans? Quote
joblo7 Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 no , yet ,out of 1 billion , i chose to identify with the other ones. Quote
joblo7 Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 do not allow your feelings to be mediatised so easily...........go check it out......the world is what you make it.... want enemies? .....plenty.......want friendship, oneness and love..?.......it is here, there and everywhere. Quote
AlpineK Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 Having been in Tibet I can tell you that the Chinese present an ugly occupying force. That was 17 years ago, and apparently not much has changed since then. I'm sure the country of China has some cool people and nice places, but the video is not a good selling point. Quote

Dechristo Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 we sent an agent to soften their northern bondary...it may have been a mistep, though, in that we sent a boulderer. Quote
AlpineK Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 Aparently I deserve some kind of retribution. I was off on dates. I was there 8 years ago not 17. Quote
minx Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 sheesh- 8? instead of 17? youd think you'd been bonked on the head or something. either way, you have a first hand experience most of us don't. i don't think you can judge all of china or the chinese people by the actions of the gov't in tibet. i've had the pleasure of working with several people from china. if they're at all representative of the people in culture in china, i look forward to visiting in the next year or two. h/e i think i'll pass on a visit to tibet. i_like_sun Posted May 13, 2007 Author Posted May 13, 2007 I've never been higher than than 14,490..... Although I know a lot of suffering is sort of mandatory at super high altitude, I think the himalayas would be an amazing experience. Quote
joblo7 Posted May 13, 2007 Posted May 13, 2007 tibet has a vibe that is unparalled.less peacefull than nepal maybe but utterly powerful, deep and soulful. climbing there was a real blast! altitude disappears when you acclimatise.....except above 24/26k, there it stays rough.. Quote

I don't know man, ever since I was seriously 5 years old, I've been obsessed about mountains. My dad and I would go to the library and rent all the climbing/himalayan National Geographic movies we could. Then do again, day after day after day.... So yeah, pictures of those mountains have been on the skin of my eyes ever since! I'm hoping I can get the money together for a trip before I'm 30........ Quote

Your right the correct number is 18 actually. I knew I'd screwed up something, but I was in a hurry to leave the house. In any case I'd agree that there are probably some great parts of China and some nice people, but the part I saw didn't leave me with a good impression of Chinese actions. Quote
