Terminal_Gravity Posted November 17, 2001 Posted November 17, 2001 Can anyone recommend a functional but small (40ish cm) ice hammer that is light, preferably way under a pound. I saw the perfect one at Barrabes. It was yellow and black. I did not copy down info and now it is not on the site. Quote
W Posted November 17, 2001 Posted November 17, 2001 Grivel makes a great tool that could be/is used as a third tool- I can't remember the name of it, I think they still make it, it's very light, and it is red. Good luck. Quote
mountainguy01 Posted November 17, 2001 Posted November 17, 2001 It is called the Grivel "3rd Tool" to be exact and is very functional and light. Quote
mikeadam Posted November 17, 2001 Posted November 17, 2001 I have a Charlet Moser 45Cm axe that works great. I would be willing to sell it for $500.00. Mike Quote
Jason_Martin Posted November 17, 2001 Posted November 17, 2001 Terminal Gravity, The Grivel Third Tool is not bad as a second tool on sixty to seventy degree terrain. I love it for steep summer Cascade stuff. However, on water ice you may as well be using a toothpick. The blade is rather short and does not bite well at all. This is not a tool I'd want to have as a back-up after breaking the pick on one of my more beefy tools. Jason Quote
Terminal_Gravity Posted November 17, 2001 Author Posted November 17, 2001 Mike, I'll send you a check tommarow Thanks Jason, a second tool on 60-70° AI is exactly what I'm looking for. Quote
wdietsch Posted November 19, 2001 Posted November 19, 2001 Terminal Gravity,From the sounds of it you were probably looking at the Simond Super Fox. Nice third tool with a replacable pick. Hard to find in the states like most Simond Products which I think is pretty sad. If it does not come back up on Barrabe's I would check with MEC, maybe some of our Canadian friends could help you out. http://www.simond.com/pagesa/english.htm Good Luck, Wes Quote

chriss Posted November 19, 2001 Posted November 19, 2001 Camp Micro 1. K&R has them. I have one of these. Almost too light, so I added a CM headweight. chris Quote
wdietsch Posted November 24, 2001 Posted November 24, 2001 Terminal Gravity,Check out Barrabe's again. Looks like they have done a lot of rearainging. The Simond Super Fox is now listed under "Technical Tools" instead of "Third Tools".For under $62.00 it's a great deal http://www.barrabes.com/barrabes/product.asp?dept_id=232&pf_id=832 Wes Quote
