Beck Posted August 13, 2001 Posted August 13, 2001 summer shell, Marmot precip, 99 bucks- Full winter armor, try LL Bean, excellent quality and features, 100- 150 bucks cheaper than Marmot/ Arxteryx or TNF Although in winter, Scholler or Polarshield is great as a most of the time outer layer and way way way more comfortable than wearing the shell anyway!!! Pick your poison or just get wet and dry out at camp. Only way I'd have a hard shell was if I was climbing in nasty conditions or ice climbing. You'll still sweat-out under though. verticalswamp Posted August 16, 2001 Posted August 16, 2001 Check out the March 2001 Consumer Reports review of wp/b shells. Some cheap stuff in there. Personally, I wouldn't touch it, but I'm pretty label loyal. Quote
Lambone Posted August 16, 2001 Posted August 16, 2001 I just got a Marmot Precip, and I've got to say that I love it. It's breathable, its super light, and for 99 bucks I wont be devestated if it gets beat up. I have yet to test it in really fowl weather though, its been too sunny! I think they make sizes specific for women, definately check 'um out. Quote
Beck Posted August 16, 2001 Posted August 16, 2001 lambone's got it right- I've used it winter for serious storm protection and it's a pretty burly weather shredder, too, just don't climb a chimmney in it!! I'd not wear it up high in wintertime, or anywhere you're gonna scrabble much. Quote
