fheimerd Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 (edited) Trip: wing ridge - Date: 12/2/2006 Trip Report: Drove over to wing ridge this last weekend. 6hours from p-town with icy roads out east. I've been out there four or five times over the last couple of years and every time blue skies and light snow. Coverage was a bit thin down low but north facing bowls and ridge flanks were in excellent shape with 1 ft of light snow. No wind, no crust only a light light dust. It was bouncy bouncy all the way down on every run. Camped out on the ridge. Skied till about 8:00 pm under natures answer to the question of night skiing and then woke up at dawn to ski some more. The whole time we were there we only saw one other group of enterprising skiers. They were having so much fun on thier first turns of the season it was great to watch. Great weekend pics to come. rbw1966 Posted December 4, 2006 Posted December 4, 2006 Let me know next time you go so maybe I can either tag along or plan accordingly. Every time but one that I've been over there the weather has been crappy. I'd love to ski there sometime. Quote
kurthicks Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 whoever's going down there this season: let me know and I'll come down and ski with you (or at least try to). just like Timmay says, I heart the wallowas too. Quote
beecher Posted December 5, 2006 Posted December 5, 2006 nice to see some people willing to admit they skied something that isn't a climbing route, now that looks like fun! hard to beat night skiing. Quote
Kit Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 Nice turns! I wondered if the Wallowas got as much snow... anyone else notice that the Aneroid Snotel site isn't reporting snow depth? The Mt. Howard site must get all the snow blown off it. Kurt - I'm in CdA now, but I'll be looking to head that way, too. Quote

fheimerd Posted December 6, 2006 Author Posted December 6, 2006 yeah the snotel site seems fucked up. I think it is measuring precip. not actual snow accumalation. Coverage was spotty on ridges and over windfall but otherwise 3-4 ft. Quote
gapertimmy Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 hey i edited your post so the video shows up in the thread... use the little TUBE button to drop it into your posts Quote
Kit Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 Hey where did you guys stay? In a tent, yurt, or motel? Quote
gapertimmy Posted December 6, 2006 Posted December 6, 2006 in his TR sounds like they camped on the ridge... so not in the yurts, and i'm guessing there isn't a hotel on the ridge Quote
Kit Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 Uh yeah, got it. heheh. Thanks timmy you can eliminate my completely inane question if you want. I read the TR, but it didn't sink in, apparently. Quote
