murraysovereign Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 So I've got a trojan (downloader) in my laptop, and ran all the scans and removal thingies and got rid of all but one instance of it. So following I browsed to the folder address (Windows\system32\aclsys.dll)intending to remove it manually. But I can't delete it in either safe or normal modes, because it's "being used by another program". Anyone have any suggestion for how to identify what program is using it so I can shut that down and try deleting it again? Or any other suggestion for getting rid of this damned thing so I can get back to work. Quote
JayB Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 Do you have the "Hijack This" program. If you download the program and post the results of the scan on one of their forums, there are folks who should be able to walk you through the steps you'll need to take to remove it. You can also plug the last bit of the address into Google, and often that will take you to a page with removal instructions. Quote
catbirdseat Posted July 14, 2006 Posted July 14, 2006 Boot your machine from a floppy or try booting in Safe Mode. Then try deleting the file. Quote
Fairweather Posted July 15, 2006 Posted July 15, 2006 ...prevents unwanted downloads, viruses, and spam (?). Quote
magellan Posted July 15, 2006 Posted July 15, 2006 This sounds familiar. It may be on your startup menu. Google a board to get specific instructions. I don't think I got rid of mine, I think I just unchecked it on the startup menu. Quote
sk Posted July 15, 2006 Posted July 15, 2006 if you were running an up to date anti virus program you likely would not have this issue Quote
snoboy Posted July 15, 2006 Posted July 15, 2006 It sounds like your computer might need to visit the Knee doctor Quote
Fairweather Posted July 15, 2006 Posted July 15, 2006 I use "Spysweeper" by Webroot. It has isolated this TH and - as far as I can tell - removed it. It's a paid program that costs about (aboot) $50/yr. I get new definitions almost daily. You know, if you'd stop surfing the porn you wouldn't get your machine all dirty like this.... Quote
