layton Posted August 22, 2002 Posted August 22, 2002 Anyone done the 19p climb on Davis, or any of the other routes? This is something I always look at while driving hwy 20, and guidebook flippin'. Quote
plexus Posted August 23, 2002 Posted August 23, 2002 I've talked to Dallas about that climb. He is truley hardcore, so when he talks about it being tough, I just never gave it a second thought. Once hiking he Stetattle Creek trail, I dropped down to he creek and crossed the creeka nd began he bushwack up. It didn't take long for me to realize it was going to be painful. However, Dallas did tell me the rock is pretty good up on it. There are a few crumbly pitches but otherwise is good stuff if you're grizzled enough to get to it. Quote
geordie Posted August 24, 2002 Posted August 24, 2002 Looked at doing the Kloke rt. Lots of flagging from the trail down to the creek. Creek isn't too bad these days. Some quality 'schwacking up to the rib - we only found the dry creek bed on the way down. We scouted the creek crossing the day before - but still didn't feel good about the time needed for the climb. turned around near the rib- didn't see the glacier, didn't see the rock. Bring your superhero cape for this one.. Quote

Is that the Davis Peak that used to have a wooden sign on the summit with arrows and mileages to different destinations? Before Bryan Burdo and I spent the night on top, that is? The description for the Kloke route, which we mistakenly thought we had done, said 14 hrs. r.t., which in our case stood for return trip. Be careful when tackling routes put up by people who run marathons. Andy Cairns Quote
