Avi conditions on N.Face hood

heading up to hood again this weekend and wondering if anyone knows what the conditions are like on the north face? Ive been up there three times so far this year on the face but we have gotten so much new snow im wondering if how consolidated it wil be.

After it starts dumping up there for the year that route turns into a ski run (or a long slog with a bergschrund problem).

 

Better as an alpine ice (earlier) climb. Unfortunately we did not get the early coldness and now it is snowy.

 

Of course if you have been skunked on it I can see why you would want to take care of unfinished business.

Up on Cloudcap Tuesday...about 18-24" of recent snow under a crust from Saturday. Unfortunately the crust is insulating the lower snowpack, slowing its consolidation. At the very least, bring floatation and a lot of patience...use your judgment.

 

However, ridge routes on the West side are building up some good rime right now...

I heard an inversion was parked over Hood for Tuesday and Wednesday so nothing has really been consolidating (which could be an explain for the crust Marcus observed). Go climb I rock
