luwayo Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 (edited) what are they & how would you rate them? i.e. don't plan to be at work on monday; need approval of authorities; prepare to be rescued; impossible... Edited November 1, 2005 by luwayo Quote
Dru Posted November 1, 2005 Posted November 1, 2005 Harrison to Pemberton is sooo long but not so bad. The worst ones are 30 year old alder with landslides. Quote
luwayo Posted November 1, 2005 Author Posted November 1, 2005 i'm looking for extremely challenging. harrison west is on the cruisey side. Quote
Dru Posted November 2, 2005 Posted November 2, 2005 Anything that's recently been deactivated or is all washed out and sucky - like the Shannon Creek road or Chehalis road or American Creek. Harrison west is cruisey but its sooo long.... if that ones too easy do the Big Silver to Kookipi and out Nahatlatch. Quote
luwayo Posted November 2, 2005 Author Posted November 2, 2005 ummhumm. that's sucky. but worse when all you've got are the venus fly trap roots to step into. okay, notwithstanding the blessed alder how about nasty in terms of what's marginal or damaging for a vehicle. Quote
Dru Posted November 2, 2005 Posted November 2, 2005 Other than alder: rockfall treefall crossditches fully deactivated road prisms landslides washouts broken glass dead cows grow ops meth labs locked gates sharp rocks and other tire hazards tank traps! Quote
luwayo Posted November 2, 2005 Author Posted November 2, 2005 i just checked them to get my bearings. which one do you want to come on? Quote
Dru Posted November 2, 2005 Posted November 2, 2005 I'll come along on Big Silver to Nahatlatch! Did you buy a Unimog? Quote

hubris Posted November 2, 2005 Posted November 2, 2005 (edited) .....in no order: 1. Kwoiek Creek (Creek xing) 2. North Kwoiek Creek (hell) 3. Chehalis-Mystery Creek (washouts/large de-activation) 4. Paleface-Meroniuk (including Chilli Lake road potholes) (debris slides) 5. Charles Creek (Urq/Med) in the last two months. (washout/trees/de-activation) 6. Molybdenite Creek (upper reaches) (30% Mining Track/Rockfall) 7. East Wilson Creek-Hicks Creek FSR (see above) 8. Skookum Creek (unreal de-activation/washout) 9. Mamquam L-Line (see above) 10. Final Approach of Lost/Terepocki Creek (North/East Stave) 11. Blowdown Creek/Pass (mining track/washout) 12. North Joffre Creek (for alder) 13. North Lizzie Creek FSR (rockfall/erosion/washout/incredibly unhealthy bridge) 14. Slollicum Creek (creek xing/washouts) 15. ....and the worst of all Glacier Creek road for the groomed out sled track that ices up at about the same time you're driving down after climbing Baker. Dru Posted November 2, 2005 Posted November 2, 2005 My downstairs neighbour is a 4x4er, he was saying they have a loop circuit set up near Bridal Falls that requires 8 hours to drive (and winch) 3 km. I can hike it faster than that. Quote
luwayo Posted November 2, 2005 Author Posted November 2, 2005 don't worry. i haven't crossed over. it's only my rainy season activity this year. i just want to see how bad some of approaches are, with the help of some oversized rigs. hubris, that damn list of yours has piqued my interest. Quote
pale Posted November 5, 2005 Posted November 5, 2005 .....in no order: 12. North Joffre Creek (for alder) 13. North Lizzie Creek FSR (rockfall/erosion/washout/incredibly unhealthy bridge) 14. Slollicum Creek (creek xing/washouts) The north Joffre is so overgrown now you would need an industrial lawnmower to get through. The other forks on N Joffre are in pretty good shape, in fact there's active logging on one of them. North Fork of Lizzie FSR has recently been cleared in the last year by myself and a BCMC group. - although there are still many large boulders that are tricky for a fullsize to get past, and one large landslide where one set of tires is on the slide, and the other set is right on the edge I didn't find Slollicum too bad, either. Fun at night One good one is the Owl Creek FSR. Good washouts, some exposure, large boulders and some loose rock. I have a stock 1/2 ton pickup, and I'm no extreme driver by any stretch. Quote
hubris Posted November 5, 2005 Posted November 5, 2005 (edited) "I didn't find Slollicum too bad, either. Fun at night" When did you do it? Slollicum FSR was gated two years ago for active logging. CanFor have apparently re-constructed the mainline, and de-built two of the spurs trending northwest. If you did it as recently as then, the road is probably in better shape than when I did it about 5 years ago. "The north Joffre is so overgrown now you would need an industrial lawnmower to get through. The other forks on N Joffre are in pretty good shape, in fact there's active logging on one of them." The north fork was driveable 5 years ago (it was cleared by Ian H and Greg H), but I skied it last year and found that it had "aldered itself". This is where the active logging is taking place. The company I work for lost out on the bid 2 years ago to perform the layout Edited November 5, 2005 by hubris Quote
pale Posted November 5, 2005 Posted November 5, 2005 I did it the Sept long weekend in '04. Don't recall driving past a gate. Perhaps I have the wrong road? We used it to access Slollicum lake. It had some monster cross ditches. Did some gardening with my trailer hitch. Quote
hubris Posted November 5, 2005 Posted November 5, 2005 (edited) Is that Hunter Creek Dru? Fred launched his Tercel through that, but it wasn't nearly that big. Edited November 5, 2005 by hubris Quote
Dru Posted November 6, 2005 Posted November 6, 2005 Yeah that pool can get really big. It reminds me of the one outside the Mines of Moria, with that tentacled whatsit in it.... Quote
