Dru Posted July 16, 2002 Posted July 16, 2002 Driving up Hwy 9 on a short cut from Sedro Wooley back to Sumas my eye was caught by a set of pinnacles on the ridge E of Van Zandt. This would be due west of the Twin Sisters I guess. These pinnacles looked to be 25-30m high and sand or limestone. Any idea if there are routes there? Dont recall seeing info on them in Bellingham Rock or the Kloke "Boulders and Outcrops" guide but maybe I'm mistaken? [ 07-16-2002, 03:48 PM: Message edited by: Dru ] Quote

dberdinka Posted July 19, 2002 Posted July 19, 2002 Back in the day when I was but a wee lass, some fools were always talking about going to the Van Zandt Dyke. Me thinks it's a chossy outcropping you can see from both Highway 9 and 542. Have fun. If the rock won't hold a drill hole I swear I've seen ice there in the winter as well. Isn't that what t hey are already trying to do down at Exit 32 and Exit 38? Darin, where is the world's softest sandstone? I thought that Chuckanut Sandstone was the stuff that they use to make Casa Que Pasa tortillas ? Bham boulderers can keep their Larabee. I'd rather take a drive to some real rock. Quote
plexus Posted July 19, 2002 Posted July 19, 2002 Dru, Where's the best place to get pitons for a good price up north of the giant fence? I thought the rock climbing store in Squamish had some good prices, better than anything I've found down here. How about MEC? Need some LA and KB for my alpine rack. Gracias por tu ayuda Quote
Dru Posted July 19, 2002 Author Posted July 19, 2002 Pins are gpod at MEC, Climb-on or Valhalla Pure take your pick. Getting 80 pins fotr $20 bucks just cant be beat. You gotta buy from estates being executed for that though. Quote
plexus Posted July 19, 2002 Posted July 19, 2002 Thanks and enjoy your vacation. Beware of Snafflehound-toting grizzlies Quote
mmcmurra Posted July 20, 2002 Posted July 20, 2002 A long time ago, I downloaded the Rock N' Road website info about Washington state because it was going to disappear from the web. It's on my web page here , and there's a listing for Van Zandt. Sounds crappy. Michael Quote
